Civilian GPS, previously accurate only to 100 yards, was improved ten-fold in May 2000, when President Bill Clinton ordered the U.S. military to stop intentionally degrading the satellite signals used by civilians. Now GPS essentially gives every square foot on the planet a unique address. The compressor uses capacitors to smooth ripples in the PC link in the motor drive. Instantaneously after a power failure, the motor becomes a "generator," using its angular momentum to create electricity (sometimes known as back EMF) and keeping the capacitors charged during the brief coastdown period.
